Resolving room-to-room noise complaints in a 5-star Bangkok hotel
A central Bangkok hotel faced repeated guest complaints about noise between rooms. We measured the real sound insulation of walls and floors, located the leakage paths, and specified fixes with verifiable targets.
The problem
Complaints about neighbour noise and impact noise from above were hurting review scores and occupancy.
Our approach
- 1Measured airborne (DnT,w) and impact (L'nT,w) sound insulation between sample rooms with Class 1 instruments
- 2Traced flanking paths via services penetrations, doors and wall junctions
- 3Specified remedial works (flanking treatment, door seals) with acceptance targets
- 4Re-measured after works to verify the result

Outcome
Airborne insulation between the treated rooms went from DnT,w 42 dB to 52 dB, clearing the ≥ 50 dB acceptance target set for the works with 2 dB of margin. Five rooms were measured before and after. One complaint has been logged since handover, against a running pattern of repeat complaints before.
