Sound source location using acoustic camera beamforming

The most expensive mistake in noise control is treating the wrong source. An acoustic camera shows you, as an image, which part of a machine or a facade the acoustic energy is leaving from — before you commit to an enclosure or a replacement. This short session covers the beamforming principle, how to read the result without over-claiming what it shows, and closes with a demonstration of a 128-microphone array.

Can an acoustic camera replace a compliance measurement?

No, and it should not be presented as one. It is a diagnostic instrument that tells you where the noise originates. The number you submit to an authority still has to come from a measurement made by the method the notification prescribes.

What work does it suit best?

Machines with several sources close together, leakage through walls and openings, and the case where an enclosure was fitted and the noise did not drop — which usually means the wrong source was treated.

Is 2.5 hours really enough?

Enough to understand the principle, read a result correctly, and judge whether the technique fits your problem. For your own production line we would either run it as a survey or build a deeper in-house session.
